I took pictures of my Regency shortgown and petticoat yesterday afternoon. They're both completely hand-sewn and completely from supplies I already had. The main fabrics for each are not only from the stash, they're leftovers from previous projects, which is a kind of double bonus.

1. The front of my 1930's sweater is finished! I'm not going to post a picture because it looks just like the back except that the neck is lower.

My new stays are finished. I used a pattern from Corsets and Crinolines that's dated to the late 1790's. They're mostly hand-sewn, but I'll admit to doing the boning channels and seaming the lining panels to each other by machine. I've made 100% hand-sewn stays and can say that all that back-stitching for the channels just isn't my thing when ( Read more... )

The Houston Area Regency Society had a sewing day on Saturday. It wasn't well-attended, but those who did attend made reasonable progress on projects and watched Tom Jones and had a tasty, though not fancy, lunch. My 1790's stays are about half-complete. The eyelets and boning are finished, and I've sewn the pieces together on one side. I might finish assembling the pieces on the other side tonight, or I might give my fingers a break and cut the shorts for my playsuit and the lining for these stays tonight. We'll see. Six panels made a good width for a warm under-petticoat so I am really close to finishing my knitted petticoat. The panels are all seamed together and hemmed. All that's left is making up the yoke and attaching the petticoat to it. It shouldn't take too long to get that done.
